Judy, the perky manager of the Maplewood Hotel in Lily Dale, New York,
smiles knowingly when you ask her about rooms that are supposedly
haunted. It’s not uncommon, she says, for people calling for
reservations to ask for one of those rooms. Mostly, they’re
disappointed later because nothing spook-tacular happens – not even a
mournful sigh in the middle of the night. But that wasn’t the case for
us when we stayed in room 6 and experienced paranormal activity we’ll
never forget.

Bobby Slash is a man with a big heart, and he’s
got more interesting life path history than an encyclopedia. A native
New York City-er, he’s a musician who’s met John Lennon and watched
rock ‘n roll icons through the 1980s and ‘90s come and go. He’s also a
student medium, a gifted intuitive. And what he said in my class
shocked me, him, and the individual he gave the message to.

I had a great time teaching a mediumship class at Lily Dale, New York.
Thirty eager-to-learn students from all points in North America, from
beginners who were curious about developing their intuitive gifts to
psychics who gave readings for a living. (One of my students once
played in a band with John Lennon – now how cool is that?) I always
devote a good section of class time to question and answer periods,
which I enjoy. Though every class is different, I can always count on
hearing this question, or some version of it: “How can we protect
ourselves against the dark forces?”
