Lost Souls PDF Print E-mail

Several weeks ago, a very agitated and worried local university student telephoned, saying he needed a Toronto medium. There was an entity in his dorm room, he said – an energy that he felt and heard. And it would not go away. “Please,” he added. “Is there anything you can do to help me?

Though I have helped some clients with house cleanings, I don’t do hauntings. I do not choose to do soul rescue work with trapped spirits, because I prefer working with clients who bring spirit that want to be with me. Hauntings involve different types of energies: they may be confused or angry, or unwilling to be released. And some spirit, despite any kind of soul rescue work, will not budge from the house. They feel the space is theirs, and you are the trespasser.  The workings of spirit fascinate me, and most of the ghosts I’ve encountered tend to be benevolent souls who have gone to the light, but come back from time to time to visit their old homes or say hello to old friends.

But Dan’s haunting didn’t seem like that. For the last month or so, just before going to bed at night, Dan has heard a man with a low voice talking to him. At first, he thought it was someone’s boyfriend in the next room, but the women living on both sides of him told him they weren’t the kind of girls that had –ahem – gentleman callers.

“He talks to you?” I asked. “What does he say?”

“I can’t make out the words,” he answered. “But I know he’s there. I asked my guides for help, but he won’t go away.”

Dan, an outgoing 2nd year university student, lived in one of the older dorms on campus. Old dorms, like old apartment buildings, have seen a lot of residents – which means there’s a pretty good chance that over the years, a lost soul could have attached itself to someone in the living. And when that resident moved on, the entity stayed.

I made an appointment to visit Dan’s dorm, then called my friend Chris, who has cleaned more houses than a maid. I told her very little about Dan, but Chris said she felt a tingle in her spine – a good indication that there was, indeed, a spirit that needed some help to cross over.

We visited Dan on a chilly afternoon, where the cold rain was just a few degrees away from snowflakes. Dan’s one-room shoebox apartment had all the trappings of a college student (a philosophy major, we later learned): shelves of books, a wood desk/table bought at a Value Village and covered with neat stacks of papers, and an electric tea kettle.

The moment I entered the room, I felt a coldness. Yes, there was something – someone – with us. Chris and I exchanged looks as I sat next to Dan on his bed; Chris took the desk chair.

“There’s a male presence here,” Chris said.

The room suddenly grew colder. I sensed a middle-aged man with a bit of a paunch. As I thought about him, I felt his energy get bigger. And then he sat in me – his coldness permeated me. He wanted attention, I felt him say. He wasn’t related to Dan, and had no connection to the university. He was just stuck between two worlds, and he was looking for a way to be heard.

What is your name?, I asked him in my mind, but he wouldn’t answer.

Why are you here?, I then thought.

I’m attracted to his light.

That’s when Chris and I noticed all the crystals in Dan’s room. We both looked at Dan, and that’s when we saw all his soul light. He was lit up like a Christmas tree: His chakras were way open. Dan’s problem was he didn’t know to close down – he was doing the right things by working with his guides and angels, but he was so open, and his soul light burned so bright, he attracted wandering entities like a magnet picking up iron filings.

But first things first. “Let’s help this entity pass over,” I said, and the three of us held hands. Chris said a prayer, and we followed that with a few minutes of silence, where we each asked our guides to help this entity cross over into the light. We meditated on that for a few more minutes … and then we felt the room become less congested. The air seemed lighter. Dan smiled.

The spirit had transitioned. We said another silent prayer to thank our otherworldly helpers, then closed our soul rescue circle.

Before we left, we told Dan how to close himself down and protect himself from hitchhiking entities that might be attracted to the light of his powerful soul.  The most important thing is self empowerment – being in control of the situation, and not the other way around. Asking guides and angels to help keep one protected is a good start, and keeping the aura clean helps, too.  But remember: You have the power, so don't be afraid to use it!
