RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering web content that changes on a regular basis. My website, many news sites and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whomever wants it.
Why use RSS?
It allows you to stay informed by retrieving the latest content from sites like this that interest you. You save time by not needing to visit every day to see if it has been updated. Also, RSS is private because you don't have to give out your peronsal information like your e-mail address like you do when you join a mailing list.
What do you need to read an RSS Feed?
You need a Feed Reader. Feed Readers allow you to retreive RSS feeds from sites and display them for you to read at your leisure. Some popular feed readers include FeedDemon and Google Reader. Click here for even more choices. Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. My site has small icons with the acronyms RSS (and Atom an alternative format) to show you that a feed is available. Click on the icon and if you have a Feed Reader setup and my RSS feed will be added to your list.
